Tell us about your role at Horizonte.
As a Safety Technician, my work is divided into two parts, usually devoting about 60% of my time to field work and 40% to admin tasks. Due to COVID-19, I have been working from home but I talk to employees everyday by videoconference and message, facilitating an effective assessment of hazards and risks to strive for a zero harm workplace. In our transition into the construction phase at Araguaia I have been working on the implementation of our Integrated Management System, which brings together topics such as safety, health, environment and community. I am very happy to be part of the Horizonte team, working with collaborative and engaged people.

What excites you most about Horizonte’s projects?
Horizonte’s core values are aligned with my personal values and I’m proud to be part of Horizonte’s vision of becoming a globally significant nickel miner. The Company’s commitment to diversity and the environmental stewardship is important to me. I strongly believe in sustainable mining. Lastly, I am proud that safety is one of our core values, as working together we can make safety a way of life, inside and outside the workplace.

What made you want to work in the mining industry?
I have always enjoyed working with people and this was one of the reasons of my choice. You work very closely with many different people in the mining industry. As a safety professional, I have a fundamental role in preventing accidents. For this reason, I have a special fondness and great dedication to risk assessments. I feel very fortunate to know that my work is fundamental to protect the life and health or our employees and other stakeholders, and to develop methods to promote safe work.
